Cole’s story reflects the lived experience of many youth who age out government care.
Cole was just seven years old when he was placed in foster care. He was bounced from one home to another throughout his time in care, never able to stay somewhere long enough to feel like he belonged, never feeling like he was ever part of a family.
Cole reached his 19th birthday, aged out of care in isolation, and fell into homelessness. Struggling with his mental health and debilitating substance use issues.
With Aunt Leah’s support he was able to establish important connections to counselors and begin to heal.
He found a home in Aunt Leah’s supportive housing program where he was able to move away from drug use.
With the support of Aunt Leah’s education & employment training program, he is currently working as a carpenter and living independently.
Young people like Cole tell us that Aunt Leah’s was there for them when they were at their lowest points and didn’t see a future for themselves.
Give a home and a path forward to Cole and over 620 young people in the year ahead.
