Aunt Leah’s Donation Wishlist and FAQ’s

Thank you for your interest in supporting foster kids and young moms. This page will be updated regularly, but we encourage you to call ahead to confirm as our needs change frequently according to our participants’ individual situations and the public health advice during the COVID pandemic.

At this time we’re only accepting drop-off furniture donations by appointment at the warehouse. Please read below for details. Our youth and families will still be able to make arrangements to access emergency household items and have them delivered to their homes during this period.

Our most urgent needs at this time are:

  • Small Appliances & Kitchen Items– We need toasters, blenders, coffee makers, and other small appliances
  • Small Apartment Sized Furniture – end tables, coffee tables, bookshelves, dining tables, dressers, and chairs, etc.

All items must have all of their original pieces, be in working condition, and be clean and reusable. We only offer our participants the best experience with their move-in, items and furniture they can be proud of, and the chance to live independently.

What items do you NOT accept?

  • Mattresses
  • Bed frames
  • Entertainment units
  • Very large furniture pieces – sofas, desks, hutches, china cabinets, TV stands, large appliances (stove, dishwasher)
  • Bedding – pillows, duvets
  • Bathroom accessories – mats, towels, shower curtains
  • Toiletries
  • Electronics – televisions, computers, fax machines, printers, etc.
  • Kids clothing

Know Where your Donations Go

Aunt Leah’s helps to prevent children from foster care from becoming homeless and mothers in need from losing custody of their children.

1

Aunt Leah’s Participants Needs
Donations go first to meet the individual needs of foster kids and young moms that participate in our programs

2

Aunt Leah’s Programming Needs
Much of the furniture and accessories donated are used for our 18 houses for program participants

3

Aunt Leah’s Thrift Store
Other items are sold in our thrift store. Store proceeds support our programs in food security, mental health, education, employment & housing

We sometimes send extra donations to Other Partnering Organizations – homeless shelters and other social enterprises

Any broken or unusable items end up being recycled or dumped at a cost to the organization and affects the proceeds to the foster kids and young moms. Please donate accordingly.

Where & When Can I Drop Off My Donation?

The warehouse is open for larger donation drop-offs (furniture) by appointment, from Wednesdays to Friday 11 to 5 pm. Most of our furniture is used to furnish the homes of the youth and moms in our programs, therefore apartment-sized furniture and appliances are highly appreciated.

Appointments to donate to the warehouse can be made by calling 604-376-7238 and emailing a photograph of item(s) to donations@auntleahs.org.
