Aunt Leah’s Place is a registered charity that has been helping kids in foster care, and teen moms achieve a better future for over twenty-five years. Aunt Leah’s Place helps prevent children in foster care from becoming homeless, and mothers in need from losing custody of their children. To support them on their journey to adulthood, we provide housing, education & training, and life skills.

Job Summary: The Administrative Assistant will act as the first point of contact for Aunt Leah’s Place, and play a key role in the day-to-day operations.  This position will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks within Operations.

Reports to:  Director of Operations or designate

Job Mentor: Program Director


Eligibility: In compliance with the Canada Summer Jobs guidelines, to be eligible, individuals must meet the following requirements:

  • (a) Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • (b) Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
  • (c) Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.


Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Positive attitude
  • Organized, flexible, and demonstrated ability to prioritize to meet multiple deadlines
  • General computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector is an asset
  • Ability to carry out routine administrative tasks including filing and reception duties



  • Undergo and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handle reception, including answering a multi-line phone system and greeting people in a welcoming and courteous manner
  • Assist with office supply management including inventory control and ordering supplies; mail delivery and distribution; submitting maintenance and IT tickets
  • Provide office organization including maintaining up-to-date schedule of meeting room booking, general filing, and document management; database entry
  • Provide administrative support to programs as directed by supervisor


COVID-19 Vaccination Policy: As of January 4, 2022, Aunt Leah’s Place has implemented a COVID-19 Vaccination policy. Aunt Leah’s Place strongly encourages all employees to be fully vaccinated (2 doses) for COVID-19. Rather than a mandatory vaccine policy, we are implementing a voluntary disclosure of vaccination. Employees will fill out a “voluntary disclosure” form indicating their vaccination status. Employees that do not wish to voluntarily disclose their vaccination status will be considered unvaccinated for operational planning purposes. The voluntary disclosure form will be included in the hiring process.

Compensation: $17.00/hr


Work Schedule: 30 hours per week for 8 weeks; generally, 7.5 hours a day (9:30 am – 5:00 pm) between Monday to Friday with some flexibility in scheduling
