Aunt Leah’s Privacy Policy

Statement and Purpose:

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society respects and upholds an individual’s right to privacy and protection of his or her personal information. Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society is committed to ensuring compliance with applicable privacy legislation.

Accountability:

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society is accountable for the personal information under its control. This information may pertain to donors, contacts, employees, volunteers and youth in our care. Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society has appointed a Privacy Officer who is responsible for the organization’s compliance with this policy.

Purposes for Collection, Use and Disclosure:

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society collects and uses personal information about donors for the following purposes:

  1. Providing tax receipts.
  2. Contacting the donors.
  3. Maintaining a relationship with our donors.
  4. Thanking the donors.
  5. Recognizing the donors.

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society collects and uses personal information about contacts for the following purposes:

  1. Contacting these individuals.
  2. Maintaining a relationship with these individuals.

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society collects and uses personal information about employees for the following purposes:

  1. Hiring the employee.
  2. Managing the employee.
  3. Paying the employee.

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society collects and uses personal information about volunteers for the following purposes:

  1. Hiring the volunteer.
  2. Managing the volunteer.
  3. Contacting the volunteer.

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society collects and uses personal information about children in our care for the following purposes:

  1. Determining eligibility for our programs.
  2. Taking the child into our programs.
  3. Assessing the needs of the child.
  4. Providing for the needs of the child.
  5. Planning for the future of the child.
  6. Maintaining contact with the child to monitor outcomes from our programs.

Disclosure of information to third parties:

The only circumstances under which personal information may be disclosed to third parties is for the fulfillment of any purposes identified above, or as required by law. If personal information is disclosed to third parties for the fulfillment of any purposes identified above, Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society will ensure that appropriate security undertakings, such as confidentiality clauses in contractual agreements, are employed to protect the transfer and use of personal information. Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society does not sell, trade, or rent information to third parties.

Safeguards:

Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society protects personal information with appropriate security safeguards. Safeguards include physical, administrative, and electronic security measures.

Access:

You have the right to access your personal information under the control of Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society. The Privacy Officer will assist you with your access requests. In certain exceptional situations, Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society may not be able to provide access to certain private information that it holds about you. If access cannot be provided, Aunt Leah’s Independent Lifeskills Society will notify you, in writing, of the reasons for the refusal.

Aunt Leah’s Society helps prevent children in foster care from becoming homeless, and mothers in need from losing custody of their children. To support them on their journey of self-sufficiency, we provide supported housing, job training and coaching on the essential skills.
