Who Is Eligible:

The workshops are designed for teens under 19, but current and past program participants over 19 are also welcome to attend.
Participants are also encouraged to invite their friends.

What We Provide:

Essential Skills offers a variety of workshops based on topics that are of interest to participants including

  • What are your educational options?
  • How about housing?
  • The landlord/tenant relationship -- what you need to know
  • How to handle money, budgets, banking and not come up short
  • Personal health and well-being
  • Food management and safety
  • Job search, resume and interview skills
  • How to manage your time to get ahead
  • Taking care of your own apartment
  • Cultural awareness and diversity
  • Arts and creative activities
  • Drug and alcohol issues
  • Career choices
Participants Receive:

The weekly workshops are designed to help participants:

  • Increase their abilities, knowledge and self-confidence
  • Make a safe and healthy transition toward independence
  • Gain self-care and life skills
  • Develop social connections with family, adults, peers and community
  • Increase participation in educational, training and creative activities
  • We also offer a healthy, nutritious meal for everyone attending the workshop!
Expectations:

Youth attending workshops must:

  • Have good attendance and punctuality
  • Be respectful and welcoming to guest speakers
  • Participate in evaluations
  • Follow the Code of Conduct
