Teens who are in foster care, group homes or about to age-out of government care face significant challenges and hurdles as they prepare for independent living. We have developed the Essential Skills Program to help bridge this transition. The program provides youth aging out of care with practical life skills, and tools for making good choices about their life, build healthy relationships, and envision a better future for themselves.
The Essential Skills program is a lively, hands-on workshop series. Local community leaders and resource people lead the workshops, answer questions and provide information and experience in areas like:
- Access to education
- Career choices
- Housing resources
- Personal health and wellness
- Parenting
- Banking
- Shopping and budgeting
- Food preparation
